EA has once again confirmed a new entry in the Battlefield series will ship in 2016.

During a recent investor call, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen was asked about key future titles for the company.

"What we've said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles," he replied. "This year it's Star Wars: Battlefront Next year, it's another Battlefield title."
EA CEO Andrew Wilson previously discussed a new Battlefield in October 2014: "Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch," he said.
"As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it's clear that players want to experience the games we're delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles."
A month later it was teased that the Battlefield series will return to "military-style game" and is already shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield."
Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed by DICE, the team responsible for the core entries in the Battlefield series.
Theme
A week ago, a rumor about "Battlefield 5" being set in the future broke out with the alleged Battlefield 2143 screenshot from a Redditor. However, the reported screenshots were declared as fake as SegmentNext said that the Reddit post has been updated with the note: "the images were fake, confirmed by OP. Nothing to see here anymore."
Meanwhile, previous reports stated that "Battlefield 5" will still be military-themed as confirmed by EA. BF4Central also previously reported that the game would do away with the usual theme of cops and robbers.
Platforms
Reports have suggested that "Battlefield 5" will be exclusive to current and next-generation consoles. DICE and EA apparently have no time and intention for making the game available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 because of the huge numbers of game lined up by the developers.

This news really shouldn't be that surprising. EA has released a big shooter every October for the past few years, and EA CEO Andrew Wilson kind of confirmed the same date in 2014. The big question here is will it be Battlefield 5, Bad company 3 or a new Battlefield spin-off?
